Digital Data Needs Security as a Critical Foundation
IDC & Seagate's Data Age 2025 study predicts that the global datasphere will grow from 40 Zettabytes in 2019 to 160 Zettabytes by 2025. The vast majority of data is stored in the cloud and datacenters, in edge server rooms, cell towers, smaller datacenters, and multiple endpoints including PCs, phones, industrial sensors, connected cards, and wearables. The 2017 edition of Data Age 2025 envisioned the percentage of data requiring security will be close to 90% by 2025, and less than half of that data will be secured. This gap presents an unambiguous picture of increasing industry need for security and privacy technologies and systems, and the processes needed to address it.
